Almost ninety years ago, Rudy Ruana started forging blades alongside the banks of the Blackfoot River in western Montana.
And between the four of us (Rudy, Vic, Mark and Mike) there’s a combined 200 years of bladesmithing out of our tiny shop in Bonner.
Mark and I have worked hard to honor grandpa’s talent, Dad’s artistry, and put our own stamp on the legacy of Ruana Knives.
We are grateful for so many folks who have trusted our blades in the field, and passed them down through generations, but it’s time for us to slow down a bit.
As Mark and I get older, we figure we’ve earned some more river time.
Mark has always been an artist, like dad, and he’s anxious to try some new things.
From here on out we’ll be doing things a little differently. Our website and Facebook page will be the best place to stay on top of the changes we’re making.
As many of you know, we’re not taking orders anymore. We will still be doing some of our traditional catalog knives, but after 45 years at the grinding wheel, Mark wants to mix it up.
Knives that become available will be posted on our website – the old favorites and some new (often one-of-a-kind) knives.
We’ve started collaborating with newer (and younger) knife makers like Behring Made and Tops Knives, and still kept our commitment to 100% American made.
We’re looking to the future and trying to figure out what is best for us, for our customers, and for the legacy of Ruana Knives.
We’re going to try some different things, maybe an auction here or there.
Since there are just two of us making knives, we can be tough to reach, but we’ll do our best to answer questions, but really, this is where we’ll keep you all updated.
